Eye of the Hurricane, Part 1: Conscious Relationship with Personal & Global Change

Living in a world that is undergoing major environmental, structural, social, and economic transformation …

   How do we embody being aware and being kind when so much is painful and scary?

   How can we respond rather than react to the changes that are happening in our lives?

   How do we access nourishment and belonging when so much of what we have known is shifting or collapsing?

   How do we engage the dynamics of current circumstances in a way that clarifies rather than confuses and energizes rather than overwhelms?

   What opportunities arise from a “wicked predicament?

“Eye of the Hurricane 1: Conscious Relationship with Personal and Global Change” explores these questions and more through guided meditation, mindful discussion, and experiential practices. We learn to navigate the tension of crisis and opportunity from a place of holding paradox — engagement and stillness, personal and collective, grief and joy — by cultivating a steady mind and open heart. In this way, we begin to shift our relationship with current personal and global  circumstances to living with and from the truth of uncertainty.

Facing multi-faceted challenge and uncertainty calls for access to multi-faceted support, resourcing and growth.

Images from the Hubble Telescope offer us a map of transformation, as we engage through the lens of Deep Time and Deep Adaptation perspectives:

  • Contemplative exploration of the natural process of evolution;

  • Guided meditations to access inner resources;

  • Somatic and energetic practices that cultivate a steady mind and open heart;

  • Reflective writing to process and integrate internal and external changing;

  • Relational perspective that supports a larger, Deep Time perspective;

  • Creative expression of what is emerging from the emergency ...

       … to stabilize the inner world as we move through outer transition.

Astronomer and author, Stephan Martin, offers his expertise, insights, and cosmic contemplations to our journey, as our Special Guest Teacher.

Join us as we find our seats in the Inflection Point ...

When we center on a Vertical Line (the roots of grounding and the universal process of evolving) rather than a Horizontal Line (the winds and currents of swirling around previous structures, habits, and patterns that are no longer working), we source our choices and actions from a foundational and inspired place… in service of cultivating a new paradigm, a new story of how we are being in the world.

This shift is the orientation that we practice in this course.
