Imagining the Unimaginable

Last week, during my morning beach time, I stood for quite a while and watched a coyote walk around on top of a whale carcass. (An Invitation for You: Let yourself pause for a moment here, allowing a vision of this pairing to form in your mind.) I had never seen anything like this before… in fact, I had never imagined anything like this before.

Sharing Our Stories

Recently, Marianne and I wrote our story, the story of a vision, of two teachers, of our callings to be of service in an ever changing world, and of what happens when intention meets the power of community. You are a part of this story, see, because here you are!

S'mores Stories: “Sensing the Mystery and Miracle of Being Outdoors"

Sylvie Rokab grew up in Brazil -- immersed in the beauty, colors, and wonders of the natural world. Nature has been a resource of nourishment and healing for her entire life and, in recent years, a source of inspiration for her creativity and dedication to re-awakening wonder and caring in people’s relationship with Earth and all beings. She states, “My mission in life is to translate … to those who care to listen, the unspeakable and what is also incredibly powerful.”

Realizing and Fully Embodying Aliveness

I remember that I'm walking around in miracles... there's no way anyone could make this stuff up. Not in our wildest dreams could we create a system of beauty, balance and fecundity such as Earth. It's just here as a living and evolving result of 13.8 billion years, and I and you and all beings are part of it. This realization is its own wonder-filled reunion -- a remembering that takes my breath away, and I smile.

S'mores Stories: “Finding Meaning and Purpose through Paradox and Balance”

Since he was a child, Dan Fernandez has been driven by insatiable curiosity of what’s it all about, why are we here. His journey has been one of always going deeper, asking questions such as “What is this tree?” not only seeking an intellectual understanding, but, even stronger, having “interest and engagement that is beyond the intellectual” … and then listening.

S'mores Stories: “Waking-up, Getting Clear, & Taking Action with Earth in Mind & Heart”

Kristen Fletcher cares and cares deeply… about Earth and all her beings, especially dogs and oceans and trees. You can sense it in her voice and see it in her smile when she talks about her experiences working to protect and preserve the oceans and coasts as an environmental lawyer, as well as how she gets to know a place by letting her canine companion teach her about being present, being curious. Through her camera lens, she engages deeply with all forms of life, capturing everything from “the smallest curiosity to the epiphany that is in that wave.”

S'mores Stories: “Relationship with Earth and Universe as a Spiritual Path”

Jennifer Farley’s path to becoming a therapist, shamanic healer and teacher was not an easy one. While she was inspired from an early age by a flow of curiosity, creativity, and a “natural ability to build relationships” with the beings of nature, she was also internally challenged by resistance, doubt, and melancholy as she questioned, “Can a white person from New Jersey be in the shamanic healing world or even have a right to be in it?”

In Love with Earth

A couple years ago, when Katie and I were sitting together enjoying a beautiful view of Monterey Bay, I said, “I think Earth as-we-know-it is dying;” I then told her about the commitment I had made to my husband in his last months and said I was making the same commitment to Earth.

S'mores Stories: “The Power of Allurement”

Making dreams come true is not an easy path, even when you’re wishing upon a star. A Forest Reflection

Here, as I sit under this canopy of trees, I breathe in deeply the scent of this space. Here, I feel I have entered a safe and sacred place. To me, it is as holy and hallowed as any church in which I’ve ever been. Maybe even more so.
